Good to know before converting AVIF to PNG

  • PNG is a still image format, so an animated AVIF becomes its first frame.
  • PNG is lossless, so the file will usually get bigger — it keeps every pixel of the AVIF exactly, it can’t add back detail that was already lost.
  • Hidden data like GPS location and camera details is left out of the converted file.

What is AVIF?

AVIF is the newest mainstream image format, based on the AV1 video codec. It squeezes photos dramatically smaller than JPG while keeping them sharp, and supports transparency and HDR. It’s still new, so many apps and websites don’t accept it yet.

What is PNG?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it is and supports transparent backgrounds. That makes it perfect for logos, screenshots and cut-outs — but photos saved as PNG are often 5–10× bigger than the same photo as JPG.

How to convert AVIF to PNG

  1. Drop your AVIF files (or paste with Ctrl+V).
  2. PNG is already selected — adjust quality if you like.
  3. Download one by one or all as a ZIP.
