How we keep your photos private
Most free image websites upload your photo to their servers, process it there and send it back. PhotoShh works the other way round: the tools come to your photo, not the other way.
How it works
- When you open a tool, your browser downloads the tool itself — never the other way round.
- Your photo is read from your device into the browser’s memory and processed there, using WebAssembly and on-device AI.
- The result is saved straight back to your device when you click Download.
- Photos you drop are remembered only in this browser’s own storage, so they follow you between tools. Clearing the tool or your browser data removes them.
Prove it yourself in 30 seconds
- Open any tool, then turn on airplane mode (or disconnect Wi-Fi).
- Drop a photo and use the tool. It still works — there’s nowhere to upload to.
- Developers: open DevTools → Network. Processing a photo makes no upload requests. Our Content-Security-Policy also forbids the page from sending data to any other website.
What about the AI?
Background removal and face detection use small AI models that run on your device. The first time you use them, your browser downloads the model from our own server and keeps it so the next use is instant. Your photo is never sent anywhere. The background-removal model is deleted automatically after 30 days without use, or immediately via “Remove now” in the tool.
What we don’t do
- We never receive, see or store your images.
- No accounts, no tracking cookies, no ad networks.
- Downloads never contain your hidden GPS location, camera serial number or name.
